The #1 Reason Why People Don't Achieve Their Goals

If there's one thing I've learned in the coaching world, it's this: you have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone. I'm not referring to taking a small step, either. You have to be comfortable living in the uncomfortable if you want to grow and evolve

You've heard the saying "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result." People often take this definition and decide it applies to the small things: learning a new task, fighting with a family member, etc. But in reality, they're referring to the big picture.

Your life will not change, your levels of happiness will not change, if you do not change. Your life is created by you and you alone. If you continue to make the same decisions you've made your entire life, and live by the same fears and rules you've lived by your entire life, your life will be the same that you've lived your entire life. It's that simple! If you aren't willing to stretch and live in the uncomfortable, your life will never change. Here are two pieces of advice that I've found that helped me quite a lot when wrestling with this uncomfortable arena myself.

1. Just do it.
Nike got it right! The more you think something over, examining the reasons why it's hard, or scary, or uncomfortable, you'll get stuck in your thoughts instead of making the change. Stop thinking, start doing.

2. The only limitations I have are those I set myself.
In the end, it's easy to blame time, money, opportunities, etc. for our failure. But in reality, the only thing holding you back is you. There is no reason why you can't make ten sales calls in one day to get a new client. There is no reason why you can't go up to a stranger and meet a new friend. Now keep in mind reality (gender, socioeconomic status, race, natural abilities, etc. do play into things). However, for the simple stuff, it's just you holding you back.

If you want to continue to grow, to continue to reach your goals time and time again, you have to get out of your head and get into the moment. Don't spend your days worrying about how uncomfortable you are, just get out there and do the work! You're the one in control, and you're the one who can make the difference for your own life.
